An attempt at a backstory.
As a wee lad, Farin was always picked on by the other dwarves. They were bigger, stronger, had longer beards and could drink more than him. By the beginning of his training in the temple of Morodin, the elders had seen the ease it took to control him and always sent him on menial tasks normally allotted to the younger acolytes.
For a decade he took this into his stride but when he was ordered to clear a nearby cave of dire chinchillas and found severely ill small creatures being nurtured to health by a goblin druid. This went against all he had been taught by his clerical school, how could an evil creature heal? Upon returning to a livid head cleric Farin faced a choice, a penitent crusade or life in the salt mines.
He then decided he had had enough and clouted the head cleric with his hammer and was sent away. He was last seen tapping his hammer against a stone wall and drowning his sorrows in human beer 500 miles south of his home.
